So I was at this game and man what a damn fun game to be at. The dome was closed which sucked but it did make it so much louder in there with the sold out, been-working-for-a-week, time-to-get-drunk crowd.
As it was a Friday game obviously Liriano started. I have to say that his first couple innings were super stressful (at least for me), despite not giving up any runs. He had the bases loaded in the 1st and had his pitch count up to 28 by the end of that inning. And then again faced some trouble in the third. But despite that, he managed to pitched 6 shutout innings, giving up only 3 hits, 2 walks, and induced 6 strikeouts. You really couldn’t ask for more.
Liriano’s was followed up by again, 3 shutout innings by the pen (Benoit, Cecil, Barnes). So even if the Jays were playing their weird 2016 selves with low hits and runs we would have been fine, but thank the baseball gods that it wasn’t the case.
The Yankees had Bryan Mitchell on the mound who embarrassed the Jays the last time they faced him by pitching 5 shutout innings to get his first and only big league win. Not to be outdone again, the bats did what they should do with rookie pitching, clobber him.
With bases loaded in the first Tulo hit a 2 run single that hyped up not just the crowd but himself as well. We saw yelling and some emotion, something that we’ve been slowly seeing more of from Tulo. I don’t know where the change from, but dear god I love it.
And not to worry, he quickly went back to his normal worried face look.
The seventh inning was pretty damn fun as well. At that point the Jays haven’t scored a run since the second and my friend and I were pretty much content that that was all the scoring to be done. I know, I hate thinking like that but it’s pretty much what we’ve seen from the Jays all season long. Luckily I was very wrong.
The rally was obviously started by a Zeke bunt hit (LOL, what a world we’re living in). A single by Travis and then an intentional walk to Encarnacion had the bases loaded, with one out, for Bautista. And I’m sorry, I get that a double play was what they were going after, especially considering Bautista already grounded into one, but you deserve hell if you walk ANYONE to get to Bautista, even .230 hitting Bautista. So with the blessing of the bat-flips-gods Bautista hit a 2 run double, while giving a big F U.
The crowd was so damn loud during that AB. José chants were strong during and after that double. Regardless of what Bautista is hitting that dude is still obviously loved.
The inning would continue with yet another 2 run single by Tulo, giving him a total of 4 RBIs. Let’s just say that me and my Tulo jersey were very happy during that game.
And of course, because it was a Jays win there was obviously some type of HR being hit. So in the 8th with Travis on 2nd base, Donaldson hit a huge HR right into the camera man in left field.
Obviously that HR was due to the high socks and high tops he was wearing. What else could it be?
This game and the Happ game in Seattle were kinda the dream games wasn’t it? Our starting rotation has been stellar all season long and we only wished that the bats could come alive. And seeing it, man, so gratifying.
To have Marco Estrada look at you like that.
Aw you two. I guess that Tom Ford cologne worked.
“Because I can
You adorable child.. Aw, Devon you’re not helping you “I’m not a baby” cause.
Dammit this is so cute! And also it’s kind of ironic that of all the people signaling baby to Travis it would be Sanchez.
Tulo making sure Rivera is doing his job right.
GoGo doesn’t get as much screen time anymore but made the most out of it with a bubble gum cameo and that adorable smile.
